Thomas Sabo Nico Rosberg Event

Thomas Sabo and their high profile ambassador, F1 gun Nico Rosberg joined forces on the eve of the Australian Formula 1 Grand Prix to unveil the ‘Rebel at Heart’ range and to talk cars.

Channel 7 racing commentator Mark Beretta interviewed Rosberg on stage, where he admitted that he had a genuine edge over his competitors going into the race. Not just because Rosberg was the fastest driver through the winter season, his first with new teammate and old go-karting mate from when he was 12 (cute!) Lewis Hamilton, but because he has a sponsor that “isn’t like a washing machine”:

“I'm very fortunate because if you see me on the beach in my holiday, I will be wearing this because I really like it,” he said, brandishing his leather bracelet with sterling silver clasp (LB 41) and beads (A1117). “ It's my favourite jewellery. So I'm really fortunate to have such a cool partner. If you look at the F1 paddock, all the drivers have personal sponsors and things like that, but one will have to say he represents ‘the best washing machine in the world’. One will have an anti-dandruff shampoo.”

Meanwhile back at the Thomas Sabo branded F1 racing simulators, GQ agreed to participate in a competition to try and beat Rosberg’s lap time of 1:25 (one minute, 25 seconds). Mistaking the simulator for a washing machine, we let the side down horribly, but racked up a lap time that to passers by looked marginally better than Nico’s of 1:23 (one hour, 23 minutes).

Getting out of the driver’s street feeling a little seasick, we left the event buzzed from the ‘Fusion’ cocktail (which seemed to be a pureed kiwi-fruit marinated in pure gin/vodka, i.e YUM) with a gifted leather bracelet (LB 40) and a renewed appreciation of how bloody hard it would be to drive a fast car well enough to be offered a Thomas Sabo sponsorship. Much more comfortable driving a Miele washer/dryer combo for now, thank you.
